Police seek man after fatal stabbing

By Elizabeth Lillis
HOMICIDE Squad detectives want to interview a 30-year-old man believed to be involved in a fatal stabbing in Noble Park North on Tuesday.
Haysam Zayat, 37, was found dead on his bed by police and ambulance officers at his Templewood Avenue home at 6.50am.
He had stab wounds to his chest.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ron Iddles of the Homicide Squad said police wanted to question a 30-year-old man, described as being of Lebanese descent with a medium build, about 175cm tall and with a shaved head, in relation to the death.
The man wanted for questioning is believed to frequent the Dandenong and Noble Park areas.
Det Sen Sgt Iddles said neighbours of Mr Zayat heard noises which sounded like an argument coming from the home about 6.30am.
“At 6.45am a white vehicle was seen leaving the home,” he said.
A 1997 white Holden Barina owned by a 20-year old woman resident of the home was later found in the car park of the Noble Park McDonald’s at the intersection of Elonera Road and the Princes Highway.
Police said Mr Zayat was known to members and had been convicted of several drug-related offences.
Mr Zayat’s brother Housan Zayat was shot in a gangland killing at Tarneit near Werribee in September 2003.
Another brother died while serving a prison sentence.
Det Sen Sgt Iddles said police were checking with known associates as to the whereabouts of the man wanted for questioning.
Police are appealing for anyone who was at or near the Templewood Avenue home on Tuesday morning who may have information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
