Afghan adventure

DISCOVER the delights of Afghanistan in the heart of Dandenong with special guided tours hosted by the City of Greater Dandenong.
An experienced tour leader will guide residents through Thomas Street’s Afghan Bazaar in Dandenong, providing an opportunity to sample the precinct’s delights and learn more about Afghan culture.
City of Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said in a written statement that the Afghan Bazaar Tours were devised after the council received a positive response from the Little India Cultural Tours, also held each month in Dandenong.
“The popularity of the Little India Cultural Tours reflects a healthy curiosity in the workings of our diverse community,” Cr Chea said.
“People have shown they are eager to learn more about the background of the neighbours with whom they share this wonderful city.
“The Afghan Bazaar Tours will give people an authentic taste of the flavours and customs of Afghanistan.”
The first Afghan Bazaar Tour, on Friday, 7 September, is already booked out.
The next tour will be on Friday, 19 October.
The free tours run monthly and finish with an optional dinner in one of the bazaar’s restaurants.
Bookings are essential as places are limited.
