Keeping gold in Victoria

By JARROD POTTER

JUNIOR Dandenong Rangers Jack Perry and Mitchell Barry have earned selection in a prestigious representative basketball team.
The 15-year-old basketball rising stars, Perry from Berwick and Barry from Narre Warren, will represent Under-16 Victoria Metro, hopefully defending its title at the Australian Junior Championships.
The duo squared off against other Australians in the East Coast Challenge to earn their place on the Victoria Metro team.
Knowing they’ve made one of the elite junior teams in Australia – on arguably one of the best development pathways in the country – is a great honour for the duo and they hope to help Victoria Metro raise the championship once again.
“It feels pretty good to know that you’re one of the top 10 players in your state,” Perry said.
It feels alright.”
“Really good knowing that you have worked really hard and made it to the moment you got picked,” Barry said.
Perry will hope to start for Vic Metro with the ball in his hand as a specialist point guard while Barry likes to sit off and make his shots as a shooting guard and is especially fond of drilling long-range three pointers.
Above all, they want to help guide Vic Metro back to the championship match and keep the cup in Victoria.
“Vic Metro is always pretty good, so hopefully we do well and get gold,” Perry said.
They both play for the Dandenong Rangers under-16 in the Victoria Championship (VC) division – the best basketball competition for the state.
The Australian Junior Championships will be held in Geelong from 5 to 12 July with 14 teams from across Australia and New Zealand competing for the title of the best Under-16s in the country.
