Afghan fans fly the flag

A CRUSHING loss didn’t dampen the spirits of the Afghanistan Cricket Team fans who flocked to Dandenong Civic Square last Wednesday.
They watched the side’s World Cup clash with Australia at the WACA Ground in Perth live on the big screen on 4 March.
Kids tried their hand at bowling and batting throughout the match, and Afghanistan flags filled the square.
Australia amassed the highest score in a World Cup and the highest One Day International total on Australian soil with 417 runs from its 50 overs.
Afghanistan was bowled out for 142 runs in the 38th over.
But the country has only played the game internationally for the past 10 years.
Afghan refugees in Pakistan formed the Afghanistan Cricket Federation in 1995 and it’s now the fastest growing sport in the country.
