Rooting for bus service

RE: Letter to the Editor “Green tinted spectacles”.
Dear Martin Pakula MP – as I said in the original article, I am glad the new State Government is proposing a bus route for the new estates of Keysborough.
As a councillor representing this part of Keysborough I know how badly it is needed.
Credit goes to you for responding to resident concerns and getting us to this point.
But in order for it to be actually used, it needs to be frequent enough to make it a viable way of getting to the Noble Park railway station so residents will realistically use it to get to work and also get people where they want to go – which means creating a route that gets people to the locations of proposed community facilities and the soon-to-be built Keysborough South Shopping Centre.
The proposed routes simply won’t achieve these objectives. That is what residents told me at the bus forum that we both attended.
Let’s stop playing party and personal politics and let’s work together for the benefit of the new estates of Keysborough by sticking to the facts and the commenting on the issues.
On the question of facts and in response to some of your comments:
1) I have been a vocal advocate on this issue for years by the way – including before you starting representing this area.
2) In response to your statement that “in 2010 it was mainly paddocks and a few houses” there was about 1000 homes in this area by 2010 – it wasn’t just paddocks with the first estates going in in the early 2000s.
Councillor Matthew Kirwan,
Red Gum Ward,
City of Greater Dandenong.
