Honoured for his sacrifice

A POLICE officer injured in a horror Dandenong North car crash has been honoured for his service to the force.
Retired Leading Senior Constable Ian Jones received the Victoria Police Star on Friday 18 March which is awarded to employees killed or seriously injured.
Mr Jones and a colleague were responding to a domestic violence incident on 8 November 2012.
On arrival they spoke to a driver exiting the street, who then fled the scene at a fast speed.
The police vehicle started to follow the car but it stopped and performed a U-turn, crossing to the wrong side of the road.
Mr Jones’s divisional van tried to take evasive action but collided head-on with the fleeing car at significant speed.
He suffered a permanent back injury that still requires an epidural injection in his spine every three months to enable him to move without pain.
Mr Jones has also been diagnosed with severe post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression.
He retired from Victoria Police in 2013 due to his injuries.
