Only two of the seven ABC Learning Centres in the City of Greater Dandenong have been guaranteed to stay open in 2009, leaving hundreds of parents to face uncertainty about childcare.
In a list released by receivers McGrathNichol last week, ABC Dandenong North and ABC Dandenong West are the only two centres in the City of Greater Dandenong that will definitely remain open past Christmas. The five others were named on a list titled ‘ABC Learning Centres subject to further operational review.’
Shadow Minister Wendy Lovell has called on Minister Maxine Morand to work with local government and community organisations to ensure no Victoria families are disadvantaged by the closure of any ABC Learning Centres.
“Minister Morand must work with local government and other community organisations to ensure childcare places are available in 2009 to assist any families disadvantaged by the ABC Learning Centre closures,” she said.
“Action is needed now, not in a few months when centres have already closed and families are at their wits’ end trying to find childcare. Families need certainty that they will have access to professional and secure childcare after Christmas and beyond.”
ABC Learning Centres in the City of Greater Dandenong which are subject to further operation review are ABC Belvedere Noble Park, ABC Endeavour Hills Central, ABC Noble Park Central, ABC Noble Park West, and ABC Power Road in Doveton.
