TENS of thousands of dollars have been rolled out to volunteer groups across the City of Greater Dandenong.
Nine community groups, including St John Ambulance, Dandenong, were named the recipients of grants, totalling more than $30,000 in funding from the Federal Government.
The funding aims to offer support and resources to volunteers who donate their time to local organisations.
Andrew Foran, St John Ambulance First Aid Services Operation Manager, said the grant would have a very positive long-term benefit for the Greater Dandenong Division.
“By providing funding for essential equipment, our members will be able to continue providing vital community services while ensuring that member experience, welfare and team building is enhanced.”
Federal Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus made the announcement at the St John Ambulance station on Wednesday and said the grants were a fantastic opportunity to recognise the invaluable contribution that volunteers made in our local community.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our local non-profit organisation, and they make a real and lasting difference in to the lives of so many people in our community,” he said.
“I know that these grants will make a difference to how volunteers in organisations like St John Ambulance operate, delivering new technology or equipment to these groups or fuel vouchers to cover the costs for volunteers.” Other recipients of the funding were: The 2nd Springvale Scout Group, Dandenong Women’s Cricket Club, Russian Senior Citizens Club, Southern Freedivers, Wiara Rover Crew, Rotary Club of Noble Park, Keysborough Bowls Club and Sudanese Community Association Australia.
