Angler baits up

By Lia Bichel
A LIBERAL candidate has stepped into the running to contest the federal election for the seat of Isaacs.
Carrum Downs resident Dale McClelland, 44, is a production manager for a manufacturing business in Dandenong.
This is the first time Mr McClelland will run in an election.
He said there were a number of daily issues facing the people of Isaacs, including business challenges, the cost of living and the local economy.
“With over 42 per cent of Victoria’s manufacturing output produced in and around Isaacs, my background in the manufacturing industry in the region gives me a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities for local businesses and their workers,” Mr McClelland said.
“I understand the difficulties of paying the mortgage and the daily cost of living pressures.”
The keen angler said recreational fishing was important to boosting the economy.
“Recreational fishing contributed significantly to the economy, not just in Isaacs, but Australia-wide, with over four million Australians participating in the sport,” he said.
“Importantly, Patterson Lakes, within the electorate of Isaacs, boasts the most popular boat launching ramp in Australia. This means local jobs and dollars in Isaacs.”
The news comes as Liberal candidate Ricardo Balancy steps up to contest the federal election in the seat of Holt on 21 August.
Mr Balancy said he wanted to bring his “administrative, people and leadership skills and abilities to deliver better outcomes for the local community.”
“I believe Holt can be an even better place to work, live and raise a family,” he said.
Mr McClelland’s campaign manager Peter Angelico, who resigned his candidacy for the seat of Isaacs in May, said Mr McClelland and the Shadow Minister for Employment, Senator Eric Abetz, will be hosting a forum in Noble Park for the Sudanese community on Friday evening. The forum is aimed to allow Mr McClelland to engage with the community – as well as discuss the issues of employment in the area.
Anyone wanting more information about the forum can contact Mr Angelico on 0417 354 420.
