A driver has captured on dashcam what he believes was an attempted car-jacking in the back-streets of Springvale.

Rich Huynh says he slowed down as a male attacker appeared from “nowhere” in front of his car on Large Street about 11pm on Tuesday 9 April.

The dashcam footage shows the male reaching into his pants and producing a metal weapon.

“That’s when I knew I was in danger and wanted my car,” Mr Huynh posted on Facebook.

“I then floored the car towards him and that’s when he tried to break my window with the ‘gun’.”

He couldn’t be definitely sure what the weapon was, but it made a metallic sound as it struck the window, he told the Journal.

Mr Huynh described the man as Asian appearance, in his thirties, medium build, long hair as well as facial hair and about 170 centimetres.
