Lights, the way out

I refer to the article (Plan splits council) in the Star dated 14 July 2011, and comment as follows:
1. The school/education department has created a problem, and should therefore resolve the problem at its expense.
2. It is interesting that the school/education department did not give full “duty of care” to this matter at the planning stage before going ahead with the changes which have created this problem.
3. Considerable expense, resources and time have been expended by council/ratepayers in resolving this problem, which is not acceptable to the school and Councillor Brown.
4. It would be interesting to find out what percentage of students at this school resides in Dandenong and indeed if councillor Brown himself resides in the municipality.
5. Councillor Brown’s comments that “the six councillors who insist on keeping streets open have failed to keep over 1000 students safe” is offensive to the councillors as well as citizens and ratepayers of the City of Greater Dandenong.
6. Traffic lights or aesthetically pleasing covered overpass constructed at the school’s expense would seem to be an appropriate solution.
7. It would seem, from observation, that the students should be taught how to cross roads safely (ie: use crossing provided and look before crossing).
Concerned resident/ratepayer.
