Eagles perch on top

THE Doveton Eagles are on top of the Southern Football League Division Three ladder for the first time in two years after a convincing 45-point win against Dandenong at Greaves Reserve.
A solid four-quarter effort in the Eagles’ first away game of the season cemented Doveton’s status as genuine contender to play finals football.
The Eagles led at every change as the Demons struggled to contain the hard-running, long-kicking style of the new-look Doveton outfit.
Darryl Thomas had his silky skills on display yet again and Dandenong could not find a player able to contain his explosive pace and precise kicks.
In his first game back after a knee reconstruction and a calf injury, Doveton full-forward Travis Gardner kicked two goals for the Eagles.
Cameron Van-Nes, Peter Dye, Stephen Wright and Tanner Christie all booted two goals for the Eagles.
Brett Hidgcock was best on ground for Doveton.
For Dandenong, coach Mick Hawken would find some relief from the efforts of David Black and Joshua Condor, with both putting in best-on-ground performances for the Demons.
On Saturday, Doveton returns to Power Reserve in a clash with Sandown Cobras in the Star Match of the Round.
