Indoor soccer brings all parties back on side

THE DANDENONG Residents and Ratepayers Association (DRRA) has praised the efforts of two Sudanese men and Victoria Police for organising a spectacular indoor soccer match involving the two parties in Keysborough last week.
Held at Springers Leisure Centre on Wednesday 14 November, the indoor soccer match saw two teams mixed with police and at-risk youth from the recently settled Sudanese community in Greater Dandenong take part in a friendly game that organisers hope will become a fortnightly event.
Organiser from the Sudanese community, Amir Mumin, told Star that the young Sudanese men thoroughly enjoyed the match with police and were already asking when the next match would be.
DRRA president Alan Hood attended the match and said it was a fantastic relationship-building exercise.
He said it was a great step forward in removing the stains in the relationship between police and Sudanese refugees after negative media coverage during the recent stabbing of a young Sudanese man in Noble Park.
