WORK has begun on a $310,000 upgrade to Parkfield Reserve Pavilion in Noble Park.
The upgrade will include an extension of the building, a new kitchen and kiosk, refurbished bathrooms and a new disabled toilet.
Greater Dandenong’s City Improvement manager Bruce Rendall said the current pavilion was 30 years old and had received no major structural improvements since it was first built.
“The current facility, like many other pavilions built in the 1960s and ‘70s, is now outdated,” Mr Rendall said.
“It does not easily lend itself towards multi-purpose use and no longer adequately meets the needs of the community.”
He said the upgrade would increase the pavilion’s capacity by providing an area which can be used by sporting clubs and other community groups across the city.
Community Services director June Dugina said the upgrade would help improve access and inclusion, particularly for women and people with disabilities.
“We expect to see an increase in the number of users as the facility will now adequately cater for residents of both genders and provide facilities for people with a disability.”
