Bushfire theft

A SPRINGVALE South man is one of three men arrested by detectives over the burglary and theft of bushfire donations from a warehouse in Clayton.
Two men, including a 47-year-old Scoresby man and the 39-year-old Springvale South man have been charged with 30 counts of burglary and theft.
A 31-year-old Seaford man has been released pending further inquiries. The men were arrested after police executed search warrants in Springvale, Scoresby and Seaford Thursday afternoon and seized a large amount of stolen property, including baby products, electrical goods, cosmetics and toiletries.
The stolen property had an estimated value of $500,000.
Detective Senior Constable Ross Fraser of Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit believes it is one of the most heartless acts he has come across.
“It was a particularly disgraceful act since the property was destined for the black Saturday bushfire victims and was donated through the generosity of the public,” he said.
The two men have been bailed by police to appear at the Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on 14 January.
