Dandy cancer fight

DANDENONG residents are invited to join the fight against cancer by taking part in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
Last year, 158 residents in the City of Greater Dandenong raised more than $37,500 for the Cancer Council Victoria.
This year, more than 500,000 Victorians are expected to raise $2.2 million towards Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention programs and support services for people affected by cancer.
Cancer Council Victoria spokesperson Louise Hollaway said Australia’s Biggest morning Tea was a great way to show support for local people with cancer and to make a tangible difference to their cancer fight.
“May is the perfect excuse to get together with friends and colleagues and make a real difference to people facing cancer both in Greater Dandenong and across the state,” she said.
“Last year alone, 15 people from Greater Dandenong utilised Cancer Council’s Cancer Information and Support Service, which provides free information and support for anyone affected by cancer, such as the Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20). Without the generosity of passionate communities like Greater Dandenong, through events such as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, this work would not be possible.”
Anyone wanting to get involved can do so at their school, club work or home by registering as a host and inviting friends to come along.
The official date is Thursday 27 May, but the Biggest Morning Teas can be hosted any time in May.
In return, guests make a donation to Cancer Council.
