Men jump wall, women hit it

By JARROD POTTER
THE Cavaliers men rode tallest on the weekend – with the seniors knocking off Western Port 77-71 and the Youth Championship team defeating Mornington 71-57.
However, the girls fell to their bogey side, Melbourne University, 65-71.
The seniors claimed their fourth win of the season after trailing at the final break by a point.
Cranbourne mainstays Bevan Camilleri (17 points, six rebounds), Michael Troyahn (15 points, seven rebounds) while unearthed young stars Dylan Wayman (15 points, eight rebounds) and Matt Orchard (15 points) smashed the Steelers at every opportunity.
The Youth Championship men also fared well on a frigid Saturday night in the Cranbourne Life Be In It Centre, putting the sword to Mornington through Australian representatives Declan Soukop (18 points) and Bosko Kostur (17 points, nine rebounds).
Sean McKinnon (13 points, 11 rebounds) also impressed with a double-double and Orchard (eight points, four rebounds) played half a match for the YC team before suiting up for the seniors.
The seniors and YC men head to Keilor on Saturday night.
The Cranbourne women have hit the wall over the last two weeks – taking their first back-to-back losses this season.
The Melbourne University Sports Centre has been the setting for two of the Cavaliers losses, with Cranbourne unable to mount catch up a six-point deficit established at the end of the first quarter.
Amy McFarlane was fouled out and Alexandra Keates caught the wrongful attention of the referee again, limiting her minutes.
The onus fell to Renae Mokrzycki as it has all too often this season for Cranbourne – and she smashed 22 points and reeled in 20 rebounds out of only 33 minutes, which has her leading the competition averages in both of those statistical categories.
Keates (11 points, seven rebounds) was effective in her court-time, as was Lara Pauline (11 points).
The handy buffer the Cavaliers had built over the last month has eroded to only a single match advantage over their next opponent Coburg, which Cranbourne hosts on Sunday at 2pm.
