RE: BETWEEN the DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
■ I work in a medical practice in Hallam owned and
run by a group of doctors who arrived in Australia as refugees by boat
from Vietnam.
They have dedicated their lives to serving the community,
providing bulk-billed healthcare to the south-eastern suburbs. Will this
opportunity ever be available to current asylum seekers, who could be
the future doctors of Australia?
It is a joy to walk into our waiting room each day to be greeted
by a colourful scene and a buzz of chatter in a multitude of languages,
and we wouldn’t want it any other way.

■ When the Australian government deports
asylum-seekers back to their countries after they have paid a huge
amount to the smugglers, the money still has to be repaid somehow to
relatives or friends it was borrowed from. Others sell all they have to
try for a safe and peaceful life and then have nothing to go home to.
Those kept in detention are forced to live in a worse situation in the
centres.

MONEY BEHIND THE MESSAGE
■ It seems the Liberal candidate for Bruce has no
problem with spending unlimited money to secure the seat at the federal
election. So far there have been four Australia Post mail drops at
$30,000 a time, four letterbox drops and large billboard advertisements
at thousands of dollars each. It appears obvious that when it comes to
funds, the Liberal candidate can easily outspend the sitting ALP member.
Maybe money can buy everything.

RE: OUTRAGE AT ROO ATTACK
■ It is commendable that police, Parks Victoria, wildlife organisations and the public were outraged at the kangaroo shooting.
However, gross cruelties are perpetrated on kangaroo families
daily, out of public view. There is good reason to ban the use of bows
and arrows, which cause the lingering agonies when wielded by the
disgraceful.
