Comforting win

By JARROD POTTER

FIRST up points in season 2013/14 went to Noble Park, cruising past last year’s VSDCA premiers Oakleigh comfortably at Warrawee Park Oval.
Chasing a scant 88 for first innings points, the Bulls resumed their chase at 1/54 with captain Dean Edmunds already set on 33 not out with Chanaka Gunawardana (17), the pair was split quickly as Gunawardana fell to Michael Splatt (2/44).
The chase proper resumed with Edmunds (58) and Marasinghe Perera (34) posting the match-winning partnership of 52 to push Noble Park ahead of Oakleigh and claim the first innings points.
The Bulls batted out the rest of the match with Jake Richardson (48) and Dirk Vandergert (22no) taking the opportunity to get some overs under their belt, with the duo flaying a 74-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
Noble Park sits third on the VSDCA ladder in the East/West First XI competition and faces Bayswater over the next two Saturdays at Moodemere Street.
