Five into three does go!

By JARROD POTTER

OPPONENTS of Greater Dandenong Warriors Hockey Club now only need to fear three colours when they arrive at Bill Toon Playing Fields – black, blue and yellow.
The club, founded in 2008 as a merger between Dandenong and Springvale-Noble Park Warriors Hockey Clubs, had combined its merger clubs’ colours for the last five seasons, but the current committee thought it was time to simplify the kit and make the uniforms stand out ahead of the upcoming Hockey Victoria winter season.
“We changed from the five-colour outfit – red and white in it – to being three colours with just blue, black and yellow,” Greater Dandenong Warriors president Brendan Ryan said.
“The colour was just a committee decision a few years ago that they wanted the uniform to be into three colours, as five colours does not really work.”
The club hosted its Uniform Launch Day last Sunday afternoon with the juniors facing the parents in the first showcase of the new Warriors’ colours.
On top of the new uniforms, the Warriors have excelled in the recruiting stakes, with the signing of club champion Lou Ciriello – father of Australian representative Chris – returning to coach the senior men’s team while Geoff Hill will coach the senior women’s team.
Spots are still available for the upcoming season with all inquiries to be directed to Phil D’Rozario at gdwhcselections@hotmail.com.
