There’s nothing that goes quicker than Two Dollar Pots

Diners let out an almighty roar on Thursday night as the popular Two Dollar Pots prevailled in race 10 at Sandown Park.

Two Dollar Pots flew out of box three and led Fearless John and Kelly Hook down the back straight before holding them both at bay to win by three quarters of a length in 29.71.

“He was great tonight. This is his grade, once he creeps up in grade he finds it a bit tougher,“ said trainer Les Hughes following the run. “He’s the best dog I’ve got at the moment -he’s keeping me happy.“

Two Dollar Pots, due to his name, has a huge following at the track and is similarly named to the former Tasmanian galloper Free Beer, who was so named because nothing goes quicker.

Two Dollar Pots, or Greg as he is known at home, was bred by Hughes then sold to a longtime friend.

“I bred him then sold him to a friend of mine who currently owns him. He’s the owner on paper but he’s got a few friends who are pretty excited about the dog,“ Hughes said.

“I’ve been friends with his father-in-law for 45 years -he approached me and said ’the boys want to buy a dog’.“

Owner Greg Elomre wasn’t on track to witness the win due to work committments.

“He’s not here tonight as he had to work. He said ’the last he won I wasn’t there , so it’s probably better I’m not there’.“

Two Dollar Pots has been a super-consistent conveyance for Hughes and his kennel since making his race debut at Sale in July last year.

Thursday night’s win was his fifth from 30 starts and he has finished in the placings at 18 of those outings.

The Spring Gun-Vixen Red dog was whelped in September 2014 and has now racked up prizemoney in excess of $18,000.

The win of Two Dollar pots was quite ironic with $2 pots available during happy hour at Sandown Park between 6 and 8pm on Thursday nights.
