Lone Pine’s tribute grows

CITY of Greater Dandenong will look at harvesting pine cones from a Lone Pine descendent to mark the Gallipoli conflict’s 100th anniversary.
Councillor Peter Brown suggested growing new pines as a tribute at the council’s 22 April meeting, after attending the Noble Park RSL Anzac Day service on 21 April.
The sub-branch is home to a pine tree grown from seeds from the Lone Pine, which gave the Battle of Lone Pine its name.
This was one of the most famous assaults of the 1915 Gallipoli campaign.
