Gallery: Car crashes in Dandenong before pursuit

POLICE allegedly saw a driver, speeding city bound on the Princes Highway, moments before he crashed into a tree in Noble Park North yesterday morning.

The man and his female passenger were travelling on the highway, near the Heatherton Road overpass, when the crash occurred at 5.15am.

Dandenong police were patrolling the area when they saw the white Holden Commodore and performed a U-turn to follow it. Before they put on lights and sirens to begin the pursuit, they saw the car had crashed a short distance up the road.

The vehicle had false number plates (WFI950) attached at the time of the collision.

The driver was taken to The Alfred hospital with life threatening injuries and is in a stable condition. His passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to Dandenong Hospital.

Police would like to speak to witnesses who saw the collision or the vehicle prior to the crash.

Information to Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
