A Dandenong South businessman is hopping mad about hoons and is determined to drive them out of his industrial estate.
James Kerr III, who runs Red Roo Commercial Environmental Equipment, has started installing $20,000 worth of high definition cameras outside his business in the Fiveways industrial estate.
On January 11, one of Mr Kerr’s cameras captured footage of a white Skyline sedan without number plates tearing smoky circuits around a roundabout metres from another car and then exiting the junction sideways in a haze of smoke.
Incensed at the driver’s reckless conduct, Mr Kerr chases the car angrily waving his fist as the vehicle leaves the roundabout.
Mr Kerr believes surveillance is needed to guard Fiveways estate, particularly at night when it is a “virtual ghost town”.
Last October, businesses at the estate were offline for three days due to a car smashing a telephone exchange hub.
The resultant black-out of internet and phone services cost thousands in lost trade, adding to a litany of flattened roadside trees, light poles and signs.
