DANDENONG MP John Pandazopoulos has accused the government of missing the chance to maximise local jobs and content on the Cranbourne-Pakenham rail upgrade project.
He said the government should have insisted the project’s Metro Trains-led private consortium be stationed in Dandenong, rather than leasing an office in Collins Street, Melbourne.
“One would have thought that if the consortium had a project in the area it would try to maximise local jobs in the region, and as part of maximising local jobs in the region would provide opportunities for local content,” Mr Pandazopoulos told State Parliament on Tuesday.
“It is where the locals expect those offices to be and where that workforce will be.
“It would also allow access to the project by local industry, of which Dandenong has a significant part, and enable it to benefit from this project.”
The State Government did not respond by deadline.
