More jobs for plaza

DANDENONG Plaza is in line for a jobs boost, according to Planning Minister Matthew Guy.
Last Thursday it was among major centres to have floorspace limits removed as part of major planning reforms to commercial zones.
“A cap on commercial floorspace is ultimately a cap on jobs,” Mr Guy said.
“We want more jobs to be located in the suburban areas of Melbourne, closer to more people.
“This is a key element of Plan Melbourne and 20-minute neighbourhoods.”
A spokeswoman for Dandenong Plaza said exciting changes were occurring at the centre, with development underway to introduce four mini-major retailers.
“The inclusion of JB HiFi, Aldi, Trade Secret and Daiso is creating construction jobs and on completion will create new retail employment opportunities,” she said.
“This work pre-dates the lifting of the retail floor space caps, however, the benefits will flow through to the community nonetheless.”
Most floorspace limits were removed last July. Amendment GC6 will now remove the remaining limits from locations in 22 metropolitan local government areas.
