A MAN was trapped beneath 700 kilograms of steel at a Keysborough factory about 3pm this afternoon (Thursday).
A specialist CFA rescue crew from Dandenong used a large ladder platform truck and ropes to rescue the injured worker with a stack of pipes on his legs, about three metres off the ground.
CFA District 8 operations officer Paul Carrigg said CFA crews did an excellent job with the delicate rescue.
He praised the man’s co-workers efforts, telling 3AW they were quick to stabilise him before firefighters arrives on scene.
“He’s very lucky to have survived this incident – I believe the actions of his co-workers probably saved his life,” he said.
“Crews managed to free the man using a specialist rescue appliance within 30 minutes of arriving on scene.”
The conscious and breathing man was airlifted to hospital where he received treatment for serious leg and shoulder injuries.
