Cut above the rest

COLIN Gibbons lost a lung to cancer 15 years ago.
“I was told if I got to see five years I’d be a lucky boy,” he said.
This month the Dandenong man will give up his hair to help others touched by the disease.
Mr Gibbons will hold a Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave event at the Dandenong Workers Social Club from 7pm on Tuesday 17 March.
“They do such magic work, and they need every cent they can get,” he said.
Dandenong barber Ian Bray will donate his services for the event, and the social club will offer a two for one meal deal to encourage people to attend and donate.
“Everyone is welcome so come and have a meal with some friendly folk,” Mr Gibbons said.
“Be brave and shave, cut or colour your hair on the night for a $5 donation.”
More than 31 Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma every day and an Australian will lose their life to blood cancer every two hours.
The Leukaemia Foundation funds research and free support for blood cancer sufferers and their families.
Dandenong Workers Social Club is at 48 Wedge Street, Dandenong.
Call Mr Gibbons on 0431 153 122 or visit www.worldsgreatestshave.com.au to get involved.
