Band is on a high note

THE City of Greater Dandenong Band has every right to toot its own horn.
It took out first place in the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod B Grade Brass Band section in Traralgon.
Band president Tim Hellyer said the team also placed third in A Grade.
“Our youngest member Maddi Mathers placed second in both the Under-16 Cornet Solo and the Junior Brass Championship Solo,” he said.
“She was also awarded the Merv Leitch Memorial Trophy for the most promising junior cornet player.”
The band’s Quintet and Quartet placed first and second respectively in the quartet/quintet section, taking out the Clyde Couch Shield.
“Plus our small ensemble won their section, winning the Les Davidson Shield,” Mr Hellyer said.
City of Greater Dandenong Band also placed second in the Victorian State Band Championships Open B Grade section in Ballarat in a field of five bands.
