CORNISH College has honoured its founding principal with a new learning space.
Kerry Bolger returned to the Bangholme school on Friday 26 February to officially open the Kerry Bolger Centre.
It has six classrooms for Year 4, 5 and 6 students plus breakout spaces.
Mr Bolger led Cornish from its opening in 2012 until his retirement at the end of last year, following 20 years as head of St Leonard’s College’s Cornish Campus.
“I was delighted to open the new building as it is testimony to what a community can achieve when it pools its resources and works with persistence,” he said.
“I hope the students enjoy the wonderful learning environment, and it will inspire them to be the best they can be.”
Cornish College council chairman Rev Dr Robert Johnson dedicated the centre, which is part of a broader building improvement program the school is completing to meet a significant growth in numbers.
This year there are 615 students from early learning (ELC) to Year 12, up from 543 last year and 220 when the college opened its doors.
The school is also working on a senior learning centre for Years 10 to 12, a new middle school wing for Years 7 to 9 and the redevelopment of the arts, drama and music facilities.
