‘Welcome to Dandenong’ assault

A 19-year-old man required surgery following a vicious unprovoked assault in Dandenong.
Dandenong CIU detectives said the victim was walking on Princes Highway on Wednesday 24 August and turned onto Scott Street about 7.30pm.
Five men jumped out of a parked car – believed to be a silver Honda Accord from 2000 or older – when he passed a vacant block.
They approached the victim and one said: “This is Dandenong, welcome to Dandenong” before punching him in the face.
The victim dropped to the ground and the men kicked and stomped on him until one said “stop”.
The teen required surgery to repair two breaks to his jaw. He had several teeth knocked out and received significant bruising to his forehead.
The attackers were perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance and aged between 17 and 25 years with slim to medium builds, dark features and thick accents.
