Firm ‘no’ to multi-unit housing

A 72-unit development in Keysborough got the thumbs down from Greater Dandenong Councillors.
They unanimously supported a council officer recommendation to refuse the application for 442-448 Cheltenham Road at their Monday 10 October meeting.
“The application results in a large, uniformed bulky box-like mass which is inconsistent with the existing and preferred neighbourhood character,” Cr Matthew Kirwan said.
The site is within a development plan area designated for residential redevelopment, and is well suited for medium density housing, the report on the application said.
But it was inconsistent with planning policies, the report went on, in relation to improving energy efficiency and housing diversity, access, amenity, and private open space.
