Affordable rentals are now in even shorter supply for low income tenants across Greater Dandenong new figures show.
Department of Human Services rental data shows the number of affordable dwellings for low income tenants fell across Greater Dandenong in the year to December 2016. There were 34 fewer affordable properties available to rent than in 2015.
The Department of Human Services data classified affordable rentals as ‘new lettings accessible to households on Centrelink incomes’.
The drop in affordable property availability comes as new data showed an increase of 2.5 per cent to the median house rent in the December quarter.
The median rent is now $410 per week.
