Ram-raiders stole cigarettes from a Springvale South milk bar in an early morning break-in.
Greater Dandenong CIU Senior Constable Matthew Moore said witnesses heard a loud bang coming from the Harold Road store about 1.25am on Tuesday 30 January.
The raiders had fled the scene when police arrived.
Officers discovered significant damage to the front of the shop and all the cigarette cabinets emptied.
The value of the haul is unknown.
