Bicycle bandit’s failed theft

By Casey Neill

Police are hunting a failed carjacker who tried to upgrade his bicycle in Dandenong.

Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Antonio Meleisea said a 71-year-old Dandenong man was driving on Edith Street about 7.30am on Sunday 17 June.

A man on a push bike came to a stop in front of the Nissan Pulsar near Market Street.

Det Sen Const Meleisea said the rider made up a story to get the victim’s attention then tried to snatch his car keys from his hand.

The victim held onto the keys during a struggle and got back into his car.

The cyclist circled the Pulsar before riding north down Market Street.

He was described as African in appearance and aged in his early twenties. He was wearing tracksuit pants and a light blue hoodie, rode a dark-coloured bike and spoke with an Australian accent.

Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with any information.
