WNBL: Stars at home on the Range as Dandendong re-signs key players

By ROY WARD

DANDENONG Rangers have locked-in the majority of their WNBL championship side for next season.

The Rangers announced reserve guards Clare Papavs and Aimee Clydesdale had agreed to return taking the Rangers 2012-2013 roster to nine players following last week’s announcement that starting point guard Kath Macleod had also re-signed with the club.

Clydesdale, a Dandenong Rangers junior player, is currently playing alongside Papavs for the Rangers South East Australian Basketball League along with WNBL championship players Steph Cumming and Alison Downie.

Clydesdale said she was excited to get another season facing down Macleod at Rangers trainings.

“I’m thrilled to be back with the Rangers for another WNBL season. Competing against the likes of Kath MacLeod everyday is exciting and I am looking forward to taking another step forward with this team next season,” Clydesdale said.

Jayco Rangers WNBL coach Mark Wright said Clydedsale would take on more responsibility this season after spending much of last season on the bench.

“She is having a breakout SEABL season and will take on more point guard duties next season in the WNBL,” Wright said.

“Aimie is super athletic, calm and composed, she will look to have a big impact as her confidence grows. She, along with Sara Blicavs, Carley Mijovic, Rosie Fadljevic and Tenaya Phillips will be the Rangers stars of the future.”

The status of import centre Krista Phillips, who is training with the Canadian national team which is attempting to qualify for the London Olympics, is yet to be announced.

Current Rangers WNBL Roster: Sara Blicavs, Aimie Clydesdale, Stephanie Cumming, Tegan Cunningham, Alison Downie, Kath MacLeod, Carley Mijovic, Jenna O’Hea, Clare Papavs.
