Earthquake hit 100 kilometres from Dandenong

By Cameron Lucadou-Wells

THE shockwaves from a magnitude-5.3 earthquake in Victoria’s south-east were felt but no significant damage reported in Melbourne’s suburbs.

The tremor struck south-west of Moe — about 100 kilometres east of Dandenong – at 8.53pm last night, causing instantaneous reaction on social media with reports of windows rattling and homes swaying.

An SES spokesman said the emergency agency received no earthquake callouts or reports of damage in Melbourne’s suburbs last night.

In the Gippsland region, there were 46 requests for help including 11 reports of building damage in Moe, such as a garage and partial chimney collapse.
