Chisholm shock: 220 jobs to go

By CAMERON LUCADOU-WELLS

STAFF from Chisholm Institute’s south-east campuses were told this afternoon that about 220 permanent and fixed-term contract jobs will go by the end of the year.

At a meeting at Chisholm’s Dandenong campus, staff were told the institute had revised the cost of state government cuts from $25 million to $30 million.

Staff have a week to apply for a voluntary redundancy, with another round in October. Among the casualties will be about 10 managers and four directors.

The good news is that no campuses, including Berwick, Mornington Peninsula and Frankston, are expected to close in the coming year.

However, doubts were raised about the survival of courses that don’t receive state ”resource allocation” in 2013.

These include business administration and legal services, sport and fitness, food and meat processing, marketing, liberal arts, ceramics and areas of hospitality (excluding commercial cookery apprentices) and events.

The level of student fees was not announced.
