Mini tennis courts give budding hot shots a chance to play

By ROY WARD

DOVETON has its own mini tennis courts for children to play on.

Mini Tennis World in Doveton features eight mini tennis courts on two of the converted netball courts at the netball complex on Frawley Road.

A mini tennis court is roughly a quarter the size of a full tennis court and has a lowered net and adjusted racquet and ball to make it easier for smaller players to play rallies.

Mini Tennis World’s co-founder is Serious Tennis coach Justin Yeo and the venue is next door to Doveton Tennis Club. Yeo believes the venue has the first indoor mini tennis courts in Australia.

Mini Tennis World will host an open day to show off its new courts from noon to 4pm this Sunday.

People of all ages are welcome to attend with free giveaways, a sausage sizzle and a special guest.

Mini Tennis World manager Sandi Dawson said the venue attracted 250 junior players while on display at the Doveton Show.

She said one term of mini tennis costs $88 per student and players needed no extra equipment as they were provided a free racquet, cap and T-shirt after signing on.

Mini Tennis runs the version of Tennis Australia Hot Shots program on the mini courts, which are suited to players aged three to 10 years.
