THE city of Greater Dandenong is urging Greater Dandenong residents to ensure their pools are properly fenced this summer to avoid unnecessary death.
Council building services manager John Prendergast reminded pool owners to make sure their pool fencing complied with safety standards.
He said residents were able to inspect a display of appropriate fencing for pools and spas at the Dandenong and Springvale Municipal Offices and are encouraged to take the opportunity to gauge how their own fencing matches up. Advice about suitable barriers and work necessary to pass regulations can also be given, and inspections carried out by council officers. Barrier permits can also be obtained through the council.
“Owners are responsible under building regulations to ensure barriers are in place to isolate pool areas and maintenance is kept up at all times or risk fines and prosecution,” Mr Prendergast said.
