Sandown: Grand National win for Bash Boy

BASH Boy proved the find of the jumps racing season, winning the $250,000 Grand National Steeplechase at Sandown yesterday.

Jockey Steven Pateman had finished runner-up in the race over the past three years but saluted on the back of Bash Boy, trained by Ciaron Maher.

Bash Boy won by seven lengths ahead of Dhaafer, ridden by Tommy Logan and trained by Aaron Purcell.

Bash Boy broke clear of the pack midway through the race and extended its lead through the final two jumps, taking its lead from 1? lengths to its eventual winning margin.
