Woosnam gets life

By JARROD POTTER

AN ACCOLADE-studded basketball career for Samantha Woosnam has been recognised by the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), with the former Dandenong Rangers forward awarded WNBL life-membership.
The WNBL has awarded Woosnam life-membership after a career spanning 16 years and 259 games across three clubs.
While most of the league would remember Woosnam for her time at the Adelaide Lightning – accruing a pair of WNBL championships in 1998 and 2007/08 – her switch to Dandenong in 2010/11 captured the local fans’ favour as she claimed her third WNBL championship victory as part of Dandenong’s 2011/12 triumph over the Bulleen Boomers.
An extended playing career overseas led Woosnam through France, Portugal, Austria and Germany before returning to Australia full time, as she played with Powerbasket Wels (Austria), TSV Wasserburg (Germany), ESBVA (France) before winning a championship in Portugal with Santarem.
Woosnam will be presented her WNBL life-membership in a ceremony at tonight’s WNBL clash between Dandenong and Logan from 7.30pm.
