Tough for Titan

By MICHAEL FLOYD

A BARNSTORMING finish helped Texas Titan storm into the $58,000 Group 2 Launching Pad at Sandown Park this Thursday night.
Texas Titan began poorly from box 7, however was able to muster quickly improving to midfield through the first turn.
Weaving his way through the field, Texas Titan found clear air down the back straight and set out after early leaders Lady Goldenpaw and Fully Charged, sweeping by them on the turn for home and powering to the line by an ever increasing three-and-a-half lengths in 29.57 seconds.
Despite his charge’s win in the fastest time of the night, trainer Jeff Britton was measured when assessing the run.
“It’s hard to gauge given it has rained all night,” the Anakie based trainer said.
“He was never going to lead from that box so it was great to see him developing a bit of track sense since he’s always going to have to come from behind in his races.”
Despite running two lengths faster than any of his rivals in this Thursday night’s final, Texas Titan received no favours after drawing box 4.
“He’s a super strong dog but will need a lucky run. I just hope he doesn’t get held up because he does finish so strong,” said Britton.
Greyhounds from eight different kennels will be represented in the final, including interstate raiders Chant, trained by Queenslander Tony Brett, and Wynburn Wizard, trained by Tasmanian Scott Bryan. Interestingly, both interstate based greyhounds won at the Victorian debuts.
The Launching Pad is the feature event of an excellent night’s racing, and there will be plenty happening both on and off the track at Sandown Park this Thursday night. As well as the Group 2 feature, the inaugural $22,000 Easter Gift (Listed) will also be run.
Thursday night is Kid’s Night at Sandown Park, with loads of free entertainment including a giant Easter Egg hunt, Beat The Bunny races, Owner For The Day, games and activities with prizes and giveaways. Entry is free, gates open at 6pm.
