A $100,000 Federal Government grant will allow Keysborough residents to access after-hours GP services.
Liberal candidate for Isaacs Ross Fox last week announced that Parkmore Medical Centre in Keysborough will receive a grant of $100,000 to provide after-hours GP services.
He said the grant would enable families in Keysborough and surrounding suburbs access to medical advice outside of regular business hours.
“I am very pleased that Keysborough is one of 140 Australian communities to be offered Government funding for after-hours GP services,” Mr Fox said.
“Local families deserve the best possible access to medical services and I am pleased that the dividends of a strong national economy are being used to achieve this.
“We can only have great local medical services if our economy is strong and well managed by an experienced team.”
This grant is the result of an application for supplementary funding by Parkmore Medical Centre in the 2007-08 round of Round the Clock Medicare grant funding.
“The Government’s Round the Clock Medicare policy is a $106 million national plan to build and strengthen after-hours care by general practitioners across Australia,” Mr Fox said.
Supplementary grants of up to $100, 000 over two years, are available on a competitive basis to support established after-hours services that require additional support to remain viable.
Supplementary grants may be used, for example, to provide incentives for GPs to participate on after-hours rosters, and to provide assistance for support staff.
