THUNDER found itself struck by a Bentleigh Greens’ barrage on ANZAC Day – downed 1-3 at Kingston Heath on Friday night.
The Thunder could not match pace with the Greens and former Thunder keeper Stuart Webster knew exactly how to stop any Dandenong foray into the Greens’ goal.
Matt Millar broke the early deadlock in the 47th minute – coming on fractionally before then as a substitute for Jake Nakic – Millar darted through the box to beat Webster for the only Dandenong goal of the evening.
After that Dandenong was at the behest of a Bentleigh rampage for the last 40 minutes – David Stirton pushed the Greens ahead with a brace in the 49th and 59th minute before Luc Jeggo iced the victory with a low ball slotted into the bottom of the net to take the two-goal victory.
Dandenong Thunder now has a 2012 VPL grand final rematch against Oakleigh Cannons on Friday night from 8.30pm at Jack Edwards Reserve.
In other results, Springvale White Eagles earned its first victory of the NPL1 season with a surprising 3-1 triumph over Box Hill.
After a Fesseha penalty at the 47 minute mark, the White Eagles smashed in two more with Millar and Maghiar sealing the deal and earning Springvale its first points in the competition.
Dandenong City will face FC Bulleen Lions on Monday night at the Venuto Club from 8.30pm.
