Night lights on lane art

TEMPORARY art projects will delight, engage and inspire in central Dandenong next month.
Nocturnal is now in its eighth year and brings Dandenong’s laneways, car parks and hidden nooks and crannies to life.
The work of 29 artists, including undergraduate students from RMIT, will light up the suburb from 3 to 13 June.
Light-based artworks will be attached to buildings and torchlight guided night walks will be held on 4, 5, 11 and 12 June.
The new outdoor civic space will provide a starting point for the night walks at 6pm, with internationally sourced and world-class art-based films on the big screen and hot soup.
Greater Dandenong Mayor Jim Memeti said Nocturnal was about creating outdoor gallery spaces in places that would be least expected.
“It is a great opportunity to explore the hidden pockets of the city rarely encountered by the public and to see Dandenong after dark,” he said.
Walks are free but bookings are essential at www.greaterdandenong.com/nocturnal or on 8571 5100.
