THE Naval Association of Australia’s Dandenong branch marked 100 years since World War I began with a ceremony in Noble Park on Sunday.
A wreath-laying service at the naval memorial at Noble Park RSL featured guest speakers, Naval Association of Australia national president Lieutenant Russell Pettis and City of Greater Dandenong mayor Jim Memeti.
Ted Baillieu represented Victorian Premier Dennis Napthine and Veterans’ Affairs Minister Damian Drum.
Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews, Royal Australian Navy Recruit School Commanding Officer Dugald Clelland, Department of Veterans’ Affairs assistant commissioner John Geary and Korean Veterans Association president Vic Dey also attended.
An armed Royal Australian Navy catafalque party and bugler took part in the service, alongside the City of Dandenong Band and Scottish pipers.
