SEABL – Round 1

A DOUBLE deed was issued at Dandenong as the Rangers took a pair of comfortable wins in their SEABL season openers against Kilsyth.
The women laid down the gauntlet for their male counterparts later Saturday night, after besting the Cobras 76-62.
Not even the might of returning Dandenong WNBL player Steph Cumming (17 points, 6 rebounds) was enough to halt her former SEABL team running riot in the key.
Jacinta Kennedy (25 points, 10 rebounds) showed how she’s still an elite threat year-in, year-out while Tenaya Phillips (18 points) had one of her best matches in the SEABL colours – draining three-of-four from the three-point line.
The one-two punch of Rangers’ guards Amelia Todhunter (16 points, 6 rebounds) and Aimie Clydesdale (8 points, 7 rebounds) showed why they’ll be hard to stop in this 2015 campaign.
Dandenong’s men also stood tall as Daequon Montreal (27 points, 10 rebounds) starred alongside Andrew Harms (24 points) in the Rangers’ 80-72 win over the Cobras.
Dandenong heads to Canberra for this week’s Round-2 clash against the Capitals Academy women and Gunners men on Saturday night.
In BIG V results, Western Port knocked off Keysborough 70-62. Keysborough’s women took on Casey Cavaliers on Sunday afternoon after the Journal went to print.
Malcolm Heard (18 points, 10 rebounds) and David Smith (12 points, 8 rebounds) led the Cougar call, but the Steelers were too strong down the stretch – as Manny Hendrix dazzled his home crowd hitting 38 points, including five treys.
Keysborough hosts Coburg and Craigieburn on Sunday afternoon from 1pm.
