A bridge linking Metro Village and Dandenong South is a step closer.
Greater Dandenong Council passed a motion about rezoning the land in Bowman Lane, Keysborough, at its Tuesday 14 June meeting.
The council will ask the Planning Minister for approval to change the land from Urban Floodway Zone (UFZ) to Green Wedge Zone (GWZ) and delete the Land Subject to Inundation Overlay (LSIO).
It approved a planning permit for earthworks and a retaining wall at the site in October 2012.
The earthworks resulted in a portion of the north-east corner being above the flood level mapped for the location, so the LSIO and UFZ need no longer apply and it can revert to the surrounding zoning, GWZ.
Councillor Jim Memeti said he looked forward to a bridge and park being constructed on the site.
“This bridge will bring Metro Village closer to the community in Dandenong South,” he said.
“This has been on the cards for eight or nine years.
“The residents have been asking ‘when is this going to be built?’
“This has been a partnership with Places Victoria and the council. This is a good outcome for this council and the community.”
