Push to finish off silent killer

Dandenong’s Harmony Square will host an event to prevent deaths from hepatitis.
City of Greater Dandenong with Hepatitis Victoria will launch a promotional video on the big screen at the World Hepatitis Day event, which will run from 10am to 2pm on Thursday 28 July.
Hepatitis Victoria staff and volunteers will manning a health information stall to share essential facts about viral hepatitis-related prevention, vaccination, treatment and harm reduction.
Better awareness, understanding and management could prevent many of the 1.4 million world-wide deaths from viral hepatitis each year.
Greater Dandenong Mayor Heank Tak said the disease affected almost 500,000 people across Australia.
“Through education and awareness we are one step closer to eliminating viral hepatitis by 2030,” he said.
Hepatitis Victoria CEO Melanie Eagle said: “We are at a stage now where we have the capability to put an end to this silent killer.
“But we need to make sure that the broader community understands the significance of the issue, and the importance of taking action to test and treat.”
